3D Breast Imaging

What it is...

Digital Tomosynthesis (pronounced toh-moh-SIN-thah-sis) is a powerful new technology in detecting breast cancer. It will be offered at Concord Imaging Center (CIC) starting the summer of 2015. CIC is adding Breast Tomosynthesis in order to provide a more comfortable, highly advanced method for early detection of breast cancer.

Breast Tomosynthesis, also called 3D Breast Imaging, provide a clear, highly focused three dimensional image throughout the breast. It permits radiologists to see through many layers of tissue, even dense tissue, to more confidently examine areas of concern.

  • Very little compression required
  • Earlier detection of small breast cancers
  • Greater accuracy in pinpointing size, shape and location of abnormalities
  • Fewer additional tests required
  • Greater likelihood of detecting multiple breast tumors
  • Superior imaging of dense breast tissue

We Care...

The doctors at CIC care about the safety and comfort of every patient. Although Breast Tomosynthesis takes multiple images of the breast to create the 3D rendering, the radiation exposure is approximately the same as one traditional mammography procedure.
